Novak Djokovic's son was cheering for Rafael Nadal to win the Australian Open, the world No 1 has revealed.
Nadal recovered from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev in one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of the 21st century last month, a victory that took him onto 21 Grand Slam crowns - one more than both Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Despite his best efforts, Djokovic didn't compete in Australia due to his unvaccinated status, and watched the event from afar after being deported on the eve of the tournament's opening day.
Djokovic has two children with wife Jelena - seven-year old Stefan and four-year-old Tara - and the final between Nadal and Medvedev caused a split in the Djokovic household.
"I found it so difficult to watch," Djokovic told the BBC when reflecting on the final. "I was very neutral, I didn’t cheer for anyone because I wanted to be there so badly. But I was amused by the circumstances.
"My wife was cheering for Medvedev, my son was cheering for Nadal and every point that Rafa would make, Stefan would be jumping around."
Djokovic also revealed Stefan was keen to find out when his father and Djokovic would next be playing at the same event - because he wants to get a picture with the Australian Open champion.
He added: "He asked me a few days ago when I was putting him to sleep: 'When is the next tournament that you are going to participate and play where Rafa is going to be also?'
"I said: 'I’m not sure, I hope very soon, why are you asking me that?' And he said: 'Because I would really love to take a photo with Rafa!'"
Incidentally, both players intend to compete in the first Masters 1000 event of the year in Indian Wells in March, where Britain's Cameron Norrie is the defending champion.
Before that though, Nadal is due to return to tour action in Acapulco this month, while Djokovic is scheduled to compete in Dubai.
