Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semifinals 6–3, 5–7, 6–1, 6–1, clinching a spot in the French Open finals. On Sunday, Djokovic will not only be playing for a third French Open title, but also a 23rd Grand Slam championship, which would pass Rafael Nadal for most all-time.
With the victory, Djokovic will play for his third French Open and record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title on Sunday.
The match was tied at one set each when Alcaraz cramped up in the final point of the second game in the third set. The Spaniard appeared to cramp up in his right leg, and had to forfeit a game in order to get enough treatment to return to playing in that set. Djokovic went on to win the set 6–1.
Following the third set, Alcaraz was able to get seven minutes of recovery by changing his clothes in the locker room. However, Djokovic cruised through the fourth set, winning the set 6–1 and taking 11 of the final 12 games in the match.
With the win, Djokovic has now made a major final match 34 times in 70 attempts. He will face the winner of Casper Ruud vs. Alexander Zverev on Sunday, both of whom are looking for their first Grand Slam title.
