Notts County reunite 58-goal partners in latest transfer swoop

Notts County have snapped up striker Cedwyn Scott from Gateshead for an undisclosed fee.

Scott has joined the Magpies on a two-year contract, and will be reunited with prolific strike partner Macaulay Langstaff at Meadow Lane following his recent move to the East Midlands. The duo combined to fire Gateshead to the National League North title last season.

Langstaff scored 32 goals in all competitions, including 28 in the league, while Scott bagged 26 in total, with 24 of them coming in the league. That's 58 between the two of them in a single campaign. Perhaps not surprisingly, both players were named in the division's team of the season.

Scott's arrival comes after Notts' top scorer last term, Kyle Wootton, left to sign for Stockport County following their promotion to League Two. And new Magpies head coach Luke Williams is glad to have the 23-year-old on board.

“When Ryan and I arrived at the club, Cedwyn was one of the first players presented to us by the recruitment team,” he told the club's official website.

“Of course, we weren’t at the club when the process of analysing Cedwyn had begun so it was amazing to walk in and hear experienced staff telling us ‘we’ve been monitoring this player – let us show you some of his qualities.’

“Ryan and I were both taken aback. To know that all that work had been done over a long period of time was a really nice feeling to walk into and we were fully behind the club getting this deal done.

“Of course, the most important thing about Cedwyn is that he can score. Over the years we’ve all seen players with fantastic technique in training but, when they’re inside the 18-yard box during a game, they can’t replicate it.

“Clearly, Cedwyn has the quality to remain calm and find the finish. He can play across the top of the pitch, he’s determined to score and has the strength to hold people off. We’re delighted to have him.”

Williams will be hoping Scott and Langstaff can carry on where they left off - this time in the non-League top flight, as Notts continue to push for a return to the EFL.

“If they hit the ground running that’s fantastic, but it’s important we all recognise it’s a step up for both players – it’s not a given that they can immediately recreate what they achieved last season," Williams added.

“What we do know, however, is that they both have huge quality and that they will be given the support they need to help with their adaptation to a new club and division.”

Scott started out at Huddersfield Town before moving on to Scottish side Dundee in 2018. Loan spells at Berwick Rangers and Forfar Athletic followed before the front man return to his native north-east to sign for Dunston UTS.

He went on to have a spell with Hebburn Town and a trial at Newcastle United before earning a short-term deal with Carlisle United. He then joined Gateshead last summer, and is now on the move again.
