Notts County player ratings vs Boreham Wood as Magpies drop points at Meadow Lane

Notts County dropped precious points in their quest for the National League title after being held to a 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies fell behind just before the half-time whistle, with George Broadbent the first to react to Lee Ndlovu's initial effort to see Luke Williams' side go into the break behind at home for just the second time this season.

A response was needed and they found it 11 minutes into the second half, with Cedwyn Scott's looping header getting the hosts level.

The draw sees Notts remain at the top of the league, but their gap at the summit was cut to just three points following Wrexham's win over Bromley, with Phil Parkinson's side having played two games less.

Ahead of kick-off, the Notts boss made one change to the side that beat Aldershot at the weekend, with John Bostock coming in for his second start of the season in place of Jim O'Brien, with Sam Austin returning on the bench after missing the game at the EBB Stadium through illness.

And the hosts almost made the perfect start in the fourth minute through Macaulay Langstaff, but the National League's top scorer was unable to add to his tally, with Nathan Ashmore coming out on top in the one-on-one.

However, Luke Garrard's side's threat from balls over and high press proved effective, resulting in Matty Palmer giving the ball away on the edge of his penalty area, with Broadbent smashing an effort off the post.

But the hosts took the lead just before the half-time whistle, with Aden Baldwin guilty of losing possession not for the first time in the match, with Slocombe producing a brilliant save to initially deny Ndlovu, only for the rebound to fall into the path of Broadbent to tap in.

Despite being a goal down Williams' side started the second period with attacking intent, with Adam Chicksen and Kyle Cameron testing Ashmore early on.

And their persistence was rewarded four minutes before the hour-mark, with John Bostock's teasing cross into the area finding the head of Scott to loop the ball into the back of the net.

The Magpies could have won it late on with Baldwin found unmarked inside the area, however, he could only guide his header over the bar.

Following the game, here is how we rated the Magpies players...

Sam Slocombe - 6

Made several pivotal interceptions during the first half, doing well to anticipate the balls over the top. Rarely tested in the second half.

Kyle Cameron - 6

Was keen to drive into forward areas to try and aid Chicksen down the left-hand side, producing several dangerous deliveries into the area.

Aden Baldwin - 5

Poorest I have seen him in a Notts shirt. Guilty of being careless in possession one too many times, eventually being punished for Boreham Wood's opener.

Richard Brindley - 6

Linked up well with Nemane down the right-hand side, producing many balls in behind the Boreham Wood defence that led to crossing opportunities.

Adam Chicksen - 6

Came close to finding an equaliser only to be denied by a terrific save from Ashmore. Rarely affected the game and was often forced to go back, rather than forward.

Aaron Nemane - 7

Was so effective with the ball at his feet and looked dangerous every time he ran at his man, providing a consistent outlet from the wide positions.

Matty Palmer - 7

Went about his business in his usual way, controlling the game alongside Bostock and looking to make things happen with his passes into the final third.

John Bostock - 5.5

A mixed bag for the experienced midfielder, who showed glimpses of the quality he possesses with his assist for Scott's equaliser but was sometimes guilty of losing possession in promising positions.

Ruben Rodrigues - 5

Unusually poor from the midfielder this evening, producing several careless passes into the final third and being unable to make his mark on the game.

Cedwyn Scott - 6.5

Worked incredibly hard off the ball with his movement causing problems for Boreham Wood. Produced an outstanding header to get the Magpies back in the game.

Macaulay Langstaff - 6

Missed a glorious chance early on to put the hosts in front. Fed off scraps for the majority.

SUBS:

Sam Austin - 5

Unable to affect the game on his return to the side.

Kairo Mitchell - N/A

A late change for Cedwyn Scott.
