Notts County boss highlights 'challenging' Chesterfield point ahead of Solihull Moors test

With another postponement added to the Notts County fixture list, Luke Williams has explained that devising a schedule for his players has become increasingly challenging in recent weeks.

The Magpies' eagerly anticipated National League fixture with Chesterfield fell victim to the freezing temperatures experienced on Friday evening, with the game called off shortly before 2pm following a second pitch inspection at the Technique Stadium.

It will be the first time in nine days since Notts have played a game following their exit from the FA Trophy to Maidstone over a week ago, travelling to Solihull Moors tomorrow evening.

And speaking ahead of the trip to Damson Park, Williams was on hand to detail the challenges recent postponements have had to his schedule.

"It has been very challenging because for the staff and the players, I always try to give a month's schedule with as much detail as possible that brings a sense of control and clarity and that is important.

"But we have had to change the schedule significantly - with the cup games it is something you can factor in, if we win we do this, if we don't we do the other and we can have some kind of template.

"But when the games are postponed it is very challenging so now we are changing the schedule every two or three days, but because we have everything around those changes mapped out, then we can try to come up with a schedule a month in advance or maybe six weeks.

"We are trying our best as a group of staff now to come together as a group and brainstorm the right thing, but it is very challenging and that is what is in front of us and we have to do the best we can."

With the Magpies not in action at the weekend it offered the opportunity for Wrexham to close the gap at the top of the table, which they managed in added time of their fixture with Maidstone, with Aaron Hayden netting a dramatic late winner.

The result sees Phil Parkinson's side go level on points with Notts, with both having the same goal difference at this stage but with the Dragons having played a game less.

But there is added incentive for Williams' side to continue their magnificent form this campaign, avoiding defeat tomorrow will equal a club record of 19 games unbeaten in the league, something last achieved in 1930.

And the Notts boss believes that knowing they have the possibility of equalling that long-standing record can provide his players with that extra motivation tomorrow night.

"I think that at this stage of the season, we know that we are close to a few records for the club," explained Williams.

"It can give an added motivation and sense of power to put into perspective their results this season so far.

"And it is maybe one thing that we can add to our preparations to try and motivate the players even more.

"It's a great thing to be able to achieve because it is not insignificant to go that amount of time without losing a game of football."
