Nottinghamshire school announces it will close due to hot weather

A Nottinghamshire school has become the latest to announce that it will close during the UK's heatwave. Retford Oaks Academy in Babworth Road have said they will close on Tuesday, July 19, as the extreme weather peaks.

The academy explained it had experienced "exceptionally hot" weather on Monday, July 18. Following a review of the site its trust has decided to close for one day in order to protect pupils.

A statement posted on the Retford Oaks Academy website, said: "The health and safety of our children and young people is of paramount importance. Today, we have experienced exceptionally hot weather conditions and the extreme heat is set to worsen tomorrow.
