The owners of pubs including The Lion at Brinsley and Oliver's Pub & Kitchen in Eastwood have announced "big news" that they're launching a new venue. The family-run business is going from strength to strength and say it's all thanks to their regulars.
This time the Oliver family are branching out over the Derbyshire border to take on The Regal, a nightclub in Ripley, with a famous connection. It was there that Sir Cliff Richard launched his career, at what was then the Regal Ballroom, in 1958 - and there's a blue plaque on the wall marking the occasion.
Kane Oliver said: "It was there Sir Cliff Richard was discovered. My understanding is he had a fan club who met there in the past so hopefully we can resurrect that.

"It is a new branch in our line of hospitality businesses, the first one outside Nottinghamshire. It won't just be a nightclub, we want to see comedy in there and bring it back round to an entertainment centre.
"It needs a freshen up and we are putting a lot of tech into it. We are putting big LED screens in, LED walls. Modernising the place is probably the best term for it. As it stands currently, it was well looked after. The original owner should be proud of what they built.
"It's beautiful. It hasn't been open since coronavirus>Covid - the gentleman who had it before has had enough of the game now, he's ready to hand over the baton.
"We are going to rebrand it slightly but we will keep the name and will run it as an exclusive nightclub with top acts playing monthly. We have been wanting to get into nightclubs for a while. It will be an interesting journey."
It is hoped that the Regal, in Nottingham Road, will reopen at the end of June or beginning of July. The Oliver family also runs Dirty Berty's, a bar beneath Oliver's Pub & Kitchen, and they're also working on turning a former bank into a hotel in Eastwood.
In a teaser post on Facebook, they thanked customers for their support, saying: "As a family-run business, we've grown from strength to strength, and this new venture is the next big step in our journey! And guess what? It's all thanks to YOU!
"Your continuous support and loyalty have been instrumental in our success. We've been through a lot together and we can't wait to embark on this new journey with you all!"
