A park in Mansfield was cordoned off by the police following reports of a 'suspicious item'. The incident was reported on Saturday afternoon (May 13) and a cordon was in place near the athletics track at the park that's located off Berry Hill Lane.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "At 1.40pm today someone came across what looked like a suspicious item, believing it could be a grenade, that was in the park.
"We put a cordon in place, the MOD have attended and the device is safe, with no risk to anybody."
There have been no reports of any injuries. Witnesses had contacted Nottinghamshire Live to say park-goers had been 'evacuated' during the incident.
