Nottinghamshire Police has confirmed that officers are investigating an incident at the Victoria Centre when two men were filmed appearing to take charity coins from a fountain. Footage emerged on Saturday (December 17) of two individuals climbing in to the fountain of the Emett Clock.
A spokesperson for the Victoria Centre confirmed at the time that CCTV footage had been handed over to Nottinghamshire Police. The force has now confirmed that officers are looking into the matter.
Inspector Paul Gummer, of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Officers are investigating after two individuals entered a water fountain at Victoria Centre, Nottingham, and removed coins donated by members of the public. CCTV is being examined and our inquiries into the incident, which happened at approximately 6pm on Saturday (17 December 2022), are ongoing."

A Victoria Centre spokesperson previously added: "For many years, our shoppers have kindly made ‘penny wishes’ at the Emett Clock, with all of the donations received being given to our chosen charities. It is upsetting for everyone to see the blatant disregard that is being shown for the generosity of others and the vital work that charities in our city carry out – particularly so close to Christmas."
Nottinghamshire Police said that anyone with further information about the incident should get in touch. Those who can assist the investigation are asked to call 101 and quote incident number 22*739034.
