Nottinghamshire Police appeal after school children and teachers abused on the tram

Nottinghamshire Police have released an image of a man they would like to trace after a public order incident on the tram in Nottingham. Police say the incident happened between 2pm and 3.15pm on March 22 and began at the Theatre Royal tram stop.

A spokesperson for the force said a man boarded the tram and started swearing and shouting abuse towards schoolteachers and their class of children. They left the tram at Beaconsfield Street and he continued to follow them and shout abuse.

Police said they have carried out a number of lines of inquiry to trace the suspect and have now released an image of a man that could help them with their inquiries.

Sergeant Mark Southgate said: “This would have been very distressing for the school children and the teachers and we are determined to catch the person responsible.

“Everyone should be able to ride the tram network without being subject to this level of abuse. It is completely unacceptable.

“We have released an image of a man that could help us with our inquiries. If you know the man on the CCTV image or are the man on the CCTV image, then please get in touch with us immediately.”

Anyone with information can call 101 quoting incident number 0547 of 22 March 2023 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
