Sick members of the public are being told to use the correct service by Nottinghamshire health bosses as 'significant pressure' builds at hospitals. Leaders across Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) and the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said staff needed to focus on "caring for the sickest patients in our community who need life-saving care".
The message comes in light of rising pressures on the city and county's hospitals, that health bosses say down to a combination of factors. "This is a result of rising staff sickness levels, busy emergency departments, the number of Covid-19 patients as well as the need to discharge patients who no longer need to be in hospital," said Amanda Sullivan, accountable officer at the CCG.
On Friday, April 8, there were 485 patients in hospital with Covid across Nottinghamshire, however the CCG said the virus was not the primary reason for the admission of a "majority" of those patients. The group added it did however cause pressures as patients still needed to be isolated.
