A clean-up is now underway at the headquarters of Nottinghamshire County Council in West Bridgford after a fire ripped through the building. Emergency crews were called to a fire at County Hall at 11.45am on Thursday, July 28.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service Group Manager Matt Reavill says the fire spread from the first floor to the second, third and fourth floor. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service says 12 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms attended the blaze in County Hall, off Loughborough Road. Derbyshire and Leicestershire's fire crews also assisted in the major incident and East Midlands Ambulance Service attended as a "precaution".

Now a Nottinghamshire County Council spokesperson says a clean-up is underway and that key services are still operating as usual. "County Hall has been handed back to the County Council by the emergency services and the clean-up is now underway," said the spokesperson.
"Since the fire on Thursday morning, services have been carrying on as usual from other buildings or staff have been working from home, which meant that key services were not affected. The Business Continuity Plan has been initiated for those services based at County Hall.
"Staff will continue to work from home or other offices, wherever possible, whilst the recovery plan is underway. Thank you to staff for their professionalism over the last few days and to the emergency services, who continue to be on site at County Hall whilst the investigation is completed."
The fire came just a day after a controversial plan to build a new £15.7 million Nottinghamshire County Council office at Top Wighay Farm, which opposition councillors have objected to on 30 different occasions, was given the go-ahead.
