To reduce Rushcliffe Borough Council's waste team's exposure to the expected hot weather, bin collections will start earlier this week. Bins will be collected from 6am on Wednesday, August 10, Thursday, August 11 and Friday, August 12, instead of their usual 7am start times.
Residents in the borough should make sure their bins are placed on the edge of their properties before 6am on these days to ensure their bins are collected. This decision was made following an Amber weather warning for the week, which is also expected to last over the weekend.
This forecast could see temperatures reach 34C across the region, and the earlier start for bin collections will help the team empty more bins in the morning before temperatures peak later in the day. This decision has also been made in line with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advice for outdoor working.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s cabinet portfolio holder for environment and safety, Councillor Rob Inglis, said: “Our waste teams work tirelessly week in, week out, and their welfare is of paramount importance. With the Amber weather warning in place this week, we’re keen to minimise their time spent working outdoors at the height of the temperatures.
"We thank residents for ensuring their bin is out earlier than normal on these three days and are aware many will be unaffected by these changes having routinely placed their bin out for collection the night before." If residents have any questions they should email customerservices@rushcliffe.gov.uk.
