Nottinghamshire Christmas light switch-on dates and road closures

Several towns across Nottinghamshire have announced their Christmas light switch-on dates and times. Eastwood, Beeston, Stapleford, Mansfield and Arnold have also announced a series of changes to traffic and travel as a result of the all-day events.

There will be Christmas markets, a chance to meet Santa and pick up a present or two for loved ones from local craft makers. There will also be a chance to have a cheeky mulled wine or two to keep warm as you wait for the official light switch on with some towns opting for firework displays.

There is no official Nottingham city centre Christmas lights switch-on ceremony this year ceremony this year. The lights are due to be turned on November 15, the opening day of Winter Wonderland. However, a number of events are taking place across the county.

Eastwood

The road closures and traffic changes will take place from 4pm until 9pm on November 29. The Christmas light switch-on will take place at 7pm with the mayor of Broxtowe, the town mayor and the deputy town mayor.

There will be a festive fairground to visit in the Iceland car park along with a Christmas market and carol singing on Victoria Street. D.H. Lawrence Museum's Secret Garden will host a Santa's Grotto between 5.30 to 8pm.

Closures

When it comes to road closures, there will be a number in place including Nottingham Road from the junction with A608 Derby Road to the junction with Plumptre Way. Victoria Street junction to Nottingham Road to Scargill Walk will also be closed.

Scargill Walk and Wood Street will also be closed from its junction with Nottingham for a distance of 10m going north. Eastwood footpath no.26 from the junction of Walker Street to Wellington place and Alexandra Street is also closed.

Traffic changes

To accommodate the road closures, there will be changes to the one-way system to allow two-way traffic during this time only. Victoria Street from its junction with Scargill Walk to the junction with Princes Street will now be two-way. Princes Street from the junction with Victoria Street in an easterly direction for 215 meters will also be open.

Wellington street from its junction with Princes Street in a southerly direction for 135 metres will also be affected.

Traffic signals in place

There will be extra signals in place on Victoria Street, Princes Street and Wellington Street.

Stapleford

The Stapleford Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.30pm on November 26th at Walter Parker VC Memorial Square with the event starting at 4.30pm.

The Christmas market will take place in Victoria Street with a tasty selection of food and drinks along with gifting options from 12pm. Santa will be in his magical grotto from 2.30pm until 5.30pm with a chance to win a golden ticket for one child to be invited on stage to countdown to the launch of the firework display at 5.30pm.

Victoria Street will also host fair rides from 4.30pm with performances from local choirs and performers. The headline act, The Jaxx, a five-piece band will also be performing.

Road closures

Road closures in Stapleford will take place on Saturday, November 26 from 9am until 9pm. This will be for the duration of the Christmas light switch-on.

Victoria Street will be closed from its junction with B5010 Derby Road going in an Easterly direction for 75 meters. B5010 Derby Road between its junction with Albert Avenue and William Road will also be closed.

Restrictions

Brookhill Street – (south side) (between 09:00 and 21:00) between its junctions with Antill Street and B5010 Derby Road.

Beeston

The Christmas light switch-on will take place on Saturday, December 3 and the roads will be closed between 7am to 9pm. The festivities will start early this year with market stalls in the middle of Beeston from 12pm followed by Santa in Broadgate Park from 2.45pm.

The official light switch-on will start at 5.30pm with fireworks from 6.30pm.

Road closures

Chilwell Road – between its junctions with Styring Street and Foster Avenue.

b) Foster Avenue – for its whole length.

c) Commercial Avenue – for its whole length.

d) The Square – for its whole length.

e) High Road – between its junctions with Station Road and DerbyStreet.

Mansfield

The Christmas light switch-on will take place on Sunday, November 27th from 3pm until 5pm. There will be a Christmas market, live music and performances throughout the day with 90's boyband East 17 performing and switching on the lights from 4.30pm.

No road closures have been announced so far due to the festivities taking place in Marketplace which is pedestrianised.

Arnold

Gedling Borough Council will be hosting a Christmas light switch-on event and a Christmas market. The light switch-on event will take place outside the new AMP building, the centrepiece of the Arnold Market redevelopment, on Friday, November 18, from 4.30pm.

No road closures have been announced so far.
