Attempts to freeze council tax by opposition councillors during a heated and often ill-tempered full county council meeting failed when two alternative legal and costed budgets were voted down.
Instead the ruling Conservative group at Nottinghamshire County Council voted through a 4% increase in council tax.
The majority of the increase (3%) will be used to offset the increasing cost of adult social care and the rest is a 1% increase in the basic cost of council tax.
