Here is today's edition of The Nottinghamian:

Today's edition of the Nottinghamian focuses on what life is like for local businesses when Goose Fair is on. We spoke to businesses about the impact Goose Fair has had on them.

If you are stuck for what to do this weekend, we've recommended one of the newest places to grab a great burger and a strong cocktail.

Also, Lynette Pinchess counts down all the weird and wonderful things you won't find at Goose Fair this year - does anyone remember the McDonald's stall?!

Nottingham shops hail bumper week as thousands attend Goose Fair

We visited businesses in Hyson Green and Mansfield Road, near The Forest Recreation Ground, to have a cheeky coffee and speak to owners about how things have been since Goose Fair returned. The fair, which is one of the biggest yet, is also being held over 10 days this year and business owners say it has bumped up business.

With the increase in people visiting the fair, there has been a huge increase in numbers using public transport, driving and parking in some residential areas has caused concerns. Surrounding businesses on Mansfield Road and Hyson Green say it has increased footfall and brought in new faces, but has made traffic more difficult.

Weather and trivia

Seven things you won't find at Goose Fair this year

Goose Fair has evolved enormously from the time it was all about buying and selling wares more than 700 years ago to the colourful spectacle it is today. But even in relatively recent times there have been some fairly big changes to the attractions at Forest Recreation Ground, where hundreds of thousands of revellers have been flocking this week.

Some things never change - mushy peas and mint sauce, dodgems and winning a giant cuddly toy are part and parcel of the event. But there are certain elements that are no longer part of the fair, which this year is enjoying a longer run of 10 days until Sunday, October 9. Lynette Pinchess counts down seven things you can't get at Goose Fair anymore.

Restaurant recommendation

Name: Bustler Street Food Market

Address Sneinton Market, Avenue E&D, Freckingham St, Nottingham NG1 1DW

Cuisine: Street Food

There is nothing more fun than discovering the newest food and drink hot spot in town, especially if it's before your mates. Bustler Market can be found in the middle of Sneinton Market avenues with a selection of local food vendors that changes weekly. The market provides a chilled, laid-back atmosphere with an excellent selection of cocktails for you to sample while you listen to tunes from resident DJs.

As it's street food, expect decent prices starting from £5 for basic sides or fries. On the menu for this weekend is The Secret Burger Club, Dirty Chicken, Brummi Food, Flats Doughnuts and B'Reyt Dough. As for drinks, we strongly recommend the Classy Paloma which combines all the best things - tequila, agave, lime, grapefruit and prosecco.

Sneinton Market is in the middle of an amazing pub crawl that has sprung up over the past few months. If you have time or alcohol tolerance, then why not check out some of the other locations on the trail? You can find them here

We visited the Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at Nottingham Theatre Royal and couldn't help smiling

Reporter Laycie Beck visited the new Carole King musical this week. She wrote it was unlike any other musical she had ever seen. The crowd was excited from the start waiting for the show to begin, and at first, she thought there were some last minute issues behind the scenes as cast members kept appearing and disappearing.

However, they were slowly setting the scene by going about their day, chatting, testing the instruments, allowing the audience to fall back to the 50s. She did have concerns about what looked to be a minimal set, but it was designed perfectly and allowed for seamless transitions between scenes thanks to quick cast work and clever lighting.
