Nottingham weather today as UK set for hottest day of the year as Spanish plume hits

Nottingham could face hot temperatures next week as the UK heads into a heatwave caused by hot air flows from Europe. Temperatures in the UK could hit a record high of 25C.

London on Wednesday (May 11) is predicted to hit 25C. As temperatures start climbing on the continent, the south and southeast of England will notice a change in weather with the mercury set to get past the highs of 23C experienced over the Easter weekend. Met Office forecasters predict highs of 19C on Thursday (May 5) and temperatures to remain consistent over the next few days.

Whilst temperatures won't be as hot as London next week, forecasters also predict highs of 19C in Nottingham next Wednesday. Jim Dale, Senior Meteorologist at British Weather Services, told the Express: “The near continent is getting hot and we're getting a little bit of that warmth into London that will give us the warmest day of the year so far next week. We get a frontal system that comes in around Tuesday to Wednesday.

"It rides up over the north, giving them some rain, but underneath that, you've got a warm plume moving up from France and Spain. When we get to Wednesday, [we could see] 25 degrees in London. It continues into the following days.”

The southeast of England, including London, northwest Kent and East Anglia, may experience the warmest conditions with the mercury forecast to stay between 23C to 25C midweek.

The 'drag of warm air' is predicted to come off the continent from countries such as Belgium, Holland and France. It will bring high pressure that will leave conditions “starting to feel a bit more summerlike” as May gets underway.

The cool air pushing into the north of the country may help to keep temperatures low with single digits between 8C to 9C in the northwest of Scotland. Parts of the north of England, Northern Ireland and Scotland may experience scattered showers with cloud cover amid humid conditions and 'thundery-type showers' in some areas.

Mr Dale said: “Over the next two weeks, the northwest will be the cooler. It is definitely a broadly northwest-southeast split for the next fortnight. Most of the rainfall will be in northwest Scotland Northern Ireland a bit in north-west England while the relative drought in the south will more or less continue.”
