Nottingham set to be hotter than Hawaii as temperatures reach 28C in 'mini-heatwave'

Nottingham is set to be hotter than Hawaii next week as highs of 28C hit the East Midlands. On Friday, June 17, a mini heatwave will hit the city and the rest of the county, with sunshine and temperatures above 25C expected throughout the afternoon heading into the evening.

According to BBC Weather, there will be a moderate breeze, with cloud cover and sunny intervals turning to sunshine around 11am. Temperatures could reach as high as 28C during the mini-heatwave - this can be compared to cooler weather in parts of Hawaii, including highs of 25C with light showers and sunny intervals in the town of Hilo.

Highs of 27C are predicted in Kekaha Kauai with light showers and highs of 26C with light showers at Port Allen airport. Throughout the rest of the week in Nottingham, Monday (June 13) is expected to be a little chillier, with highs of 19C. Tuesday, June 14, may see temperatures reach 22C before, on Wednesday and Thursday, they could rise further, at around 25C.

Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, said: “Around the middle of next week we expect to see a plume of air coming up though France from North Africa and into Britain. This has the potential to push temperatures into the low 30Cs in southern parts of the country, possibly hitting 35C.

"We are certainly into record territory if this comes off, with heatwave temperatures possibly lasting through to the weekend. This is the first major heatwave of the season.”
