Nottingham-born actress Sophia Di Martino has won an award for her role in Disney’s Loki
She took home the first award of the night at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, for best breakthrough performance. She thanked audiences for “letting her character into their imaginations” and her family for “always being there”.
The award was presented by the cast members of Netflix hit show Stranger Things, including British stars Joseph Quinn and Jamie Campbell Bower. The award for best team went to the cast of Loki, with Sophia Di Martino returning to the stage to accept the award.
Sophia, 38, was born in Nottingham and grew up in the suburb of Attenborough, where she attended the Chilwell Comprehensive School.
She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts with honours in media and performance from the University of Salford. She has two children with with actor and writer Will Sharpe., and her pervious acting roles include DCI Claire Ashby in Silent Witness, and as Polly Emmerson in Casualty.
