Nottingham polling station venue changed due to building damage

A polling station venue for this year's local elections in Nottingham has had to be changed just days before voting due to building damage. Voters across the country will be heading to polling stations on Thursday (May 4) to elect local councillors.

This includes people in Nottingham, where people will be choosing the 55 members of Nottingham City Council for the next four years. People on the electoral register have already had information about the vote and their local polling station through the post.

But for people living in the Bulwell ward of Nottingham, where three councillors will be elected, one of their polling stations has had to be changed. Mariner Court, a Nottingham City Homes building on Irwin Drive, has suffered damage to the ceiling in its communal lounge.

This room is where the polling station was set to be based and Nottingham City Council has therefore announced a new polling station for affected voters. This will be the Crabtree Farm Community Centre, a short distance from Mariner Court.

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said the building damage also means the communal lounge currently can't be used by Mariner Court residents until repairs are made. Voters affected will be issued with new poll cards, whilst Nottingham City Council says they have also been contacted directly about the change.
