Nottingham neighbours 'scared for their family's safety' after boy, 15, stabbed in St Ann's

Neighbours say they are "scared for their safety" after a teenager was stabbed in Nottingham. It comes as the 15-year-old boy was walking along Brewsters Road, close to the junction with Ransom Road, St Ann’s, Nottingham, when he was stabbed by an unknown man at around 5pm on Monday, February 6.

The area was taped off for two days while detectives carried out investigations in the area. The victim was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre and treated for injuries which are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Police have now launched an appeal, asking for anyone with information to come forward after the "extremely serious incident". Neighbours on Brewsters Road have described their 'shock' after seeing the large police scene near their homes.

A neigbour said he was "shocked" when he returned home to a cordoned off street. Robert Camirie said: "I was away and then came back, and everything was taped off. It was a shocker."

The 57-year-old, a Marshall trainer added: "I was shocked when we have been told that he was so young as well. St Ann's used to be one of the nicest places back in the day, but that changed."

"It is worrying every time we hear there is a stabbing. I teach street fighting and I always tell young people to never carry a knife. You end up in prison for something like that."

Support worker Andrew Swinscoe, 51, said: "I did not know anything about it until I had to pick up my wife from work. It was all cordoned off, all blue lights, so she had to walk home.

"It is not an incident that is out of the ordinary in St Ann's. You have to keep yourself to yourself.

"I would not say it is scary, but it was definitely shocking. You never expect it to happen so close to home."

Van Nguien, who works as a chef, 52, added: "We are just really concerned about what happened and I hope police will get them arrested. It was something very scary to witness, the big cordons, and having so much police.

"I am scared for the safety of my family - it was very frightening. It is the first time I have ever seen something like that."

Officers also want to hear from any witnesses who were nearby at the time and saw anything. The offender is described as a white man, 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall, and was wearing a black balaclava and black gloves.

In a previous appeal, Detective Sergeant Andy Buxton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is an extremely serious incident and we want to speak to anyone who has information which could help with our investigation.

“It took place at quite a busy road junction and at a busy time of the day. Did you see anyone matching the description of the offender? If you were in the area at the time and saw anything, or were driving along Ransom Road and have dash-cam footage, please get in touch immediately.

“People can expect to see a large police presence in the area while we investigate the full circumstances of the incident. If anyone has concerns about what happened please speak to an officer.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 575 of 6 February 2023, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
