A Nottingham funeral director is offering a first-of-its-kind funeral service for families. A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service has developed a new drone service that will capture the service of a loved one from the sky.
The drone service was developed after strict Covid-19 restrictions forced funerals to limited to just six mourners in 2020. Local non-profit group, Care and Education Group (CEG) established the service which uses drones to record funerals, and memorial events before incorporating music, photography and tributes.
A.W. Lymn introduced the service in 2021 for Nottingham and Derbyshire families who are keen to create a keepsake or digital tribute from the day. The fifth-generation family funeral firm is always looking for innovative ways to support the local community and fulfill individual requests.
So far the team has performed 12 drone funerals which have had positive feedback from clients.
Lisa Birks used the drone services at the funeral of her daughter, after watching the footage she said it was the most beautiful thing she had ever watched.
“On the day of the funeral I couldn’t function properly, I didn’t even know who attended. The video allows me to look back and see how loved my daughter was.”
Selvin Reid, Managing Director at CEG, said: “We first worked together when A.W. Lymn was the funeral director of a family we were offering the service to, and right away we admired their professionalism and caring approach. It was apparent we shared a similar ethos and from then on, we began working together on various projects to support those who were affected by the restrictions of the pandemic.”
The drone service includes a full in-depth consultation prior to the funeral where the family is able to story-board their vision to ensure all requirements are met. After the service, the footage is then put on a disc or uploaded to YouTube with access granted to those who attended or any families who may not have been able to attend.
Neil Reeves, Funeral Director said: “We take great pride in serving our local community, and we always go above expectations to make the day special for those who are grieving.
“Funerals are continuing to adapt with the times and the circumstances we are faced with, and utilising modern technology such as drones is just one example of this. It allowed people to get closure during the pandemic via live-streaming, and now it has cultivated to a full-service offering we can now provide to all families in the area.”
