Nottingham Forest trio clash in tight FA Cup affair as young Reds suffer late heartbreak

Winger Alex Mighten won the battle of the Nottingham Forest loanees as Sheffield Wednesday knocked Mansfield Town out of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Mighten, 20, played the full 90 minutes as his team came from behind to earn their place in the third round. Mansfield, with Forest youngsters Riley Harbottle and Will Swan in their starting XI, were leading until the 78th minute at Hillsborough. Two late goals from Michael Smith saw the Owls emerge victorious, inflicting late heartbreak on Harbottle and Swan.

It was Mighten's 10th appearance in all competitions for Wednesday this season, with the youngster having only managed to score once from the wing in League One this season. The forward has been struggling to make a big impact on the Owls squad this season, with his loan club flying high in the league table, but he has featured more of late.

Harbottle and Swan, both 22, also played the full game for the Stags. Defender Harbottle made his 19th appearance of the season and has been contributing from the back, with three goals in League Two to date.

Swan has been on fine form, the forward notching six goals in 15 League Two appearances for Nigel Clough's men. His form suggests a bright future for the 22-year-old, who will now be looking to progress up the leagues while time is still on his side.
