Nottingham Forest reportedly tried to sign Atalanta attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi this summer before being put off by the Italian club's €50million asking price.
The Ukraine international has become a key part of the club's success domestically and on the European stage over recent seasons since signing from Belgian side Genk in 2019. Malinovskyi has scored 30 goals and assisted almost as many in well over 100 appearances for the Bergamo-based outfit.
While Atalanta may have started the Serie A season unbeaten and currently sit second in the league table, the 29-year-old has yet to be as impactful as seasons past. Gian Piero Gasperini has only started him in four out of six matches, with the player yet to feature past the 75th minute in any of those half a dozen appearances.

It is claimed by calciomercato.com that " something has broken" over recent weeks between the two. In confirming the summer interest from the Reds as well as West Ham and French side Marseille before baulking at the €50million requested by chief executive Luca Percassi, it is added that a January exit cannot be ruled out should the situation not be resolved.
Whether the impending arrival of Gustavo Scarpa would affect any previous interest in Malinovskyi remains to be seen. Jesse Lingard and Morgan Gibbs-White were also recruited this summer, who occupy similar positions.
