For the second time this season, former Nottingham Forest loanee Philip Zinckernagel has scored on his debut.
The Dane signed on loan for Standard Liege earlier this month, barely three months after he had joined Olympiacos, who, like the Reds, are owned by Evangelos Marinakis. He has quickly made an impact for his new team.
Zinckernagel made his first appearance for the Belgian side on Sunday and notched a well-taken brace as Club Brugge were toppled 3-0. His first came on the half hour, when he expertly curled the ball in from outside the area. That was followed with another in the 64th minute, when he raced into the box and drilled in a shot from close range after some fancy footwork.

The 27-year-old had scored on his debut for Olympiacos, too, back in July. Amid Forest’s miserable run of form, his goals have got Reds fans talking:
@NathanJoyes1: We should have brought Zinckernagel back as a squad player is a hill I’m willing to die on. #NFFC
@NFFCJoe: Genuinely think we should've gone back in for Zinckernagel. Keep abit more continuity and don't think he'd have been any worse than Lingard so far
@PanthersMassive: I’ll never understand why we didn’t sign Zinc!! It literally baffles me! #NFFC
@nad1865: 2M is an absolute steal could’ve been so useful this season
@melly783: We should of kept him in the squad as least #NFFC
Zinckernagel played a key role on loan from Watford as Steve Cooper’s side clinched promotion last season. He made 50 appearances in all competitions and bagged seven goals.
Explaining his decision to leave Olympiacos, he said he “didn’t want to play” for Carlos Corberan. The former Huddersfield Town boss, who himself has now been axed, replaced Pedro Martins, who had been in charge when Zinckernagel put pen to paper.
The ex-Red said: “I didn't want to play for the new coach, it was his predecessor who really wanted me. I couldn't see myself playing for him, which is why I decided to leave.
“If I chose Standard, it's because I know it's a great club. It hasn't had a good period recently, but it's still a great club.
“I didn't know the coach personally, but I knew his style of play. I don't think he sees me as a flank, but really as a number 10 in a 3-5-2, where I played last season, or else on the wing. I want to create a lot of chances on the pitch, that's what will help the team win games.”
