Here are your Nottingham Forest headlines on Friday, June 9, 2023.
Demiral chance
Reported Forest target Merih Demiral is "back up for sale" in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old is said to have turned down a move to Forest back in the winter market this year, but the Reds may now have a second bite at the cherry to sign their man.
Demiral, who joined Atalanta last year after two-and-a-half seasons with Juventus, played 28 games in Serie A last season and has long attracted attention from clubs across Europe in the transfer market.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Turkish centre-back "will leave Atalanta" this summer because he is not in the plans of the manager. That could open the door for Forest if head coach Steve Cooper feels he needs another centre-back ahead of next season.
Reds eye £20m striker
Forest are said to be keen on Stuttgart striker Silas Katompa Mvumpa as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The summer transfer window officially opens next Wednesday, and it will be a crucial one at the City Ground. The Reds are keen to oversee the right business to help them push on in the Premier League next term.
Bolstering their attacking arsenal is a must, with Steve Cooper’s side having missed front man Taiwo Awoniyi when he was sidelined due to injury. According to The Sun, the club are eyeing up DR Congo forward Silas as a possible option to add to their ranks.
After scoring five goals in 30 Bundesliga game for a side who finished 16th, he is valued at £20million and is said to be managed by the same agency as Forest midfielder Orel Mangala. The Reds are said to have had the 24-year-old on their radar before, having kept tabs on him when he was at FC Paris before his move to Germany in 2019.
Henderson fee claim
Forest apparently "do not want" to pay the £25million fee touted for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Forest do want to sign Henderson, who spent the 2022-23 season on loan at the City Ground, but will be hoping to pay a lower fee than the one Man United are said to want. Henderson was in fine form for Forest before injury cut his season short over the winter and he was replaced by Keylor Navas.
The Reds still think highly of Henderson and will make a bid to sign the 26-year-old permanently, but such talks won't start until the future of David De Gea is resolved, with United keen to give the soon-to-be out-of-contract goalkeeper a new deal.
According to The Athletic, Forest "can match" Henderson's Man United wages one they agree a fee. They say a transfer "could be wrapped up quickly" once United have certainty on De Gea's future.
Villa want Adams too
Forest could face competition from Aston Villa if they are to pursue an interest in Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.
Forest have been linked with the USA international, with speculation growing that he cculd move on after Leeds were relegated from the Premier League. Adams signed for Leeds from RB Leipzig last summer for a reported £20m and made 24 league appearances last season despite missing the run in because of a hamstring injury.
Adams has four years left on his contract but a drop into the Championship, with relegation confirmed on the final day, has left question marks over whether the Yorkshire side can hang on to key players.
If Forest go for him then they can expect some heavyweight competition, at least according to the Athletic who say Adams is an outside name to keep an eye on as regards Aston Villa transfer targets.
Furuhashi in demand
Nottingham Forest are likely to face major competition for Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi, if reports of their interest come to fruition.
Steve Cooper ’s side have been name checked among the clubs who would like to recruit the 28 year old who netted 34 goals in all competitions to help Celtic win the league this past season.
Forest are in the market for a striker but The Sun says Tottenham are expected to make a move for the player, who was the top scorer and player of the year in Scotland.
That follows manager Andre Postocolglou’s move from Celtic to take charge at Spurs, an appointment that was confirmed this week.
