Nottingham Forest transfer blow as boss slams 'ridiculously low bid'

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that former Nottingham Forest loanee Max Lowe will stay at Bramall Lane beyond this summer.

The left-back spent the 2021/22 season on loan with Forest from the Blades, coming off the bench in the play-off final victory against Huddersfield back in May. His time at the City Ground was hampered by injury, but he still did manage to make 22 appearances for the club over the season.

It is believed that Forest saw a £2 million bid for the player rejected by Sheffield United back in January. It is also claimed that Greek side Olympiacos, who are owned by Evangelos Marinakis have made a bid of their own for the player this summer.

Lowe has returned to pre-season training with Sheffield United ahead of the new season, and has featured in both of the Blades’ pre-season games. Speaking about the player’s future, Heckingbottom confirmed that there had been a bid this summer but issued a defiant message.

"He is staying," the Sheffield United boss said, via The Star .

"There was a bid for Lowey. A ridiculously low bid. A lot less than what we paid for him.

"We like the lad, he’s gone out on loan and done really well in this league and helped a team get promoted out of this league. That’s exactly what we want.

"He's come back really fit, he's done everything we've asked of him. He recovered from injury and is chomping at the bit, you can see that.

"So we're really pleased with where he is and our conversations with Max have been about that. The only person who usually suffers if there's any arguing or controversy over futures is the player.

"The one way to do it is go and play well and if people want you, they'll come and get you. And until that point, there's no point even worrying about it."

Forest have added a left-back in the summer transfer window, completing a move for Omar Richards last week. The Bayern Munich man arrived at the City Ground in a deal worth around £8.5 million.
