Nottingham Forest take giant step towards safety as Chelsea suffer more misery

  • Chelsea suffered a 3-1 home defeat by Nottingham Forest on Monday, marking their sixth consecutive league loss, a streak not seen since November 1993.
  • The defeat came against a relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest side, who are now on a brilliant winning run under Vitor Pereira, moving them closer to safety.
  • A Taiwo Awoniyi brace either side of an Igor Thiago penalty put Forest in control, before Joao Pedro scored a late consolation goal for Chelsea, ending their nine-and-a-half-hour scoring drought.
  • The match also saw Cole Palmer have a penalty saved by Forest keeper Matz Sels and Jesse Derry taken to hospital after a clash of heads with Forest’s Zach Abbott.
  • Under interim manager Calum McFarlane, Chelsea remain in ninth place, 10 points adrift of the Champions League spots, while Forest extended their unbeaten run to seven games and are now six points clear of the relegation zone.
