Nottingham Forest star sends emotional message to fans after 'goosebumps' moment

Defender Joe Worrall says he hopes the support fans showed through “tough times” is being repaid as Nottingham Forest target a successful end to the season.

After their worst start to a campaign in more than a century, the Reds have enjoyed a remarkable transformation under Steve Cooper. And the goal is to ensure this term finishes in style.

Amid an electric atmosphere at the City Ground on Sunday night, Forest pushed Liverpool all the way in a gripping FA Cup quarter-final. In the end, they were left to rue missed chances as a disputed Diogo Jota goal denied them a last-four tie at Wembley.

But attention will turn back to a promotion push once the Championship action resumes after the international break. Cooper’s men are three points below the play-off spots with 10 matches to play, holding games in hand on their rivals.

And Worrall posted an emotional message on social media as he reflected on the weekend’s clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side. He wrote on Twitter: “The best atmosphere I have ever witnessed at the City Ground, I had goosebumps all game. The support from the fans and the love you have shown us players through tough times this season are hopefully being repaid. Thank you! #NFFC #TOGETHER #BELIEVE”

On Instagram, he added: “Hope the fans enjoyed the cup run, we sure did. The atmosphere at the City Ground was the best I’ve ever witnessed. We hope to recreate more of those in the future.”

The latter earned a reply from former Forest loanee John Terry. The ex-England and Chelsea centre-back wrote: “Well played mate.”

Worrall was man of the match against Liverpool as Forest’s cup run came to an end. He has long had Premier League admirers, and that performance is understood to have caught a few eyes.

The Reds had previously seen off Arsenal, Leicester City and Huddersfield Town to reach the quarter-finals. It was the first time they had made it that far in the competition since 1996.
