Evangelos Marinakis explains boss decision as Steve Cooper gets Nottingham Forest injury boost

Here are the latest Nottingham Forest headlines on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

'Superb' Nottingham Forest star earns Kevin De Bruyne & Eden Hazard comparison

Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson is shining in a new role for the Wales national team.

The 21-year-old played in midfield for his country as they lost 2-1 to Belgium on Thursday evening and, despite the defeat, Wales boss Rob Page was full of praise for Johnson.

Page even compared Johnson's new role to that of Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard, saying the Forest man was a "threat" in those positions as they play to his strengths. That will be music to the ears of Reds head coach Steve Cooper as he prepares to welcome his players back from the international break.

Evangelos Marinakis reveals reasons for manager decision

Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis has explained the decision to re-appoint former coach Michel Gonzalez at Olympiacos.

The Greek giants had been on the search for a new boss since Marinakis took the decision to part ways with Carlos Corberan earlier this month. A reported meeting earlier this week led to the re-appointment of Michel, seven-and-a-half years after the manager was sacked from the same role.

The 59-year-old managed Olympiacos between February 2013 and January 2015, winning two Greek Championships and one Greek Cup. He also took charge of memorable matches including a shock 2-0 win over Manchester United in the first leg of a Champions League last 16 clash in 2014.

Dean Henderson responds to criticism over transfers

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson has said that every one of the new arrivals at the club has fit into the squad, maintaining the togetherness of the promotion season.

Henderson himself was one of 22 new arrivals during what was a busy summer transfer window for the club. The goalkeeper signed on a season-long loan from Manchester United, replacing the outgoing Brice Samba between the sticks at the City Ground.

It has been widely accepted that the number of new arrivals at the club could mean that patience may be needed in order for the team to gel. Forest went into the first international break in the relegation zone, having lost their last four Premier League games.

Steve Cooper handed huge Forest injury boost ahead of Leicester City clash

Nottingham Forest and Steve Cooper have been given a big, and unexpected, boost ahead of their return to Premier League action next week with summer signing Moussa Niakhate potentially returning from a hamstring injury.

The centre-back picked up the injury in the 1-0 win over West Ham United at the City Ground last month. The injury has seen the 26-year-old sit out the last six Premier League matches, with the prognosis saying that he’d be out for ‘a few months'.

It does, however, seem that the player may have recovered quicker than initially expected. The defender was called up to the Senegal national squad for the current international break and could now potentially make his international debut, having been named on the bench for the international friendly against Bolivia.
