Nottingham Forest stance on Keinan Davis return revealed as transfer 'possible'

A Nottingham Forest return for Aston Villa forward Keinan Davis reportedly remains a possibility this summer as the Reds are "after another striker".

Taiwo Awoniyi arrived from Union Berlin for a £17million club-record transfer fee earlier this summer, but, with club captain Lewis Grabban departing at the end of his contract earlier his month, further additions in this area are required. Lyle Taylor has featured during pre-season after returning from last season's loan at Birmingham City, while Sam Surridge remains sidelined despite having groin surgery the day after the Championship play-off final.

Davis was a key part of the frontline the secured promotion after arriving from Aston Villa on New Years' Day. The 24-year-old scored five goals and assisted another three in all competitions before suffering a hamstring injury in April that saw the striker miss the final month of the regular season before returning for the play-offs.

He has, though, picked up another injury during this pre-season and, despite being named by manager Steven Gerrard in Villa 's squad to tour Australia, has been unable to train and has instead been rehabilitating. That is expected to end ahead of this weekend ahead of their scheduled final friendly against Stade Rennais, with Davis set to make a full return to fitness.

Whether that could tempt Forest to add to their attacking options with a familiar face remains to be seen. The Mirror report that the Reds are "after another striker" and that a move bringing Davis back "is possible".

It is, though, also added that head coach Steve Cooper is "considering targets like Emmanuel Dennis" at Watford. Contrasting reports in the Daily Mail over the weekend stated that, due to Forest 'pressing ahead' with an offer for Maxwel Cornet, any deal for Dennis "now looks to be off".
