Nottingham Forest signing ruled out for rest of the season with serious injury

Nottingham Forest defender Giulian Biancone has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

The summer signing sustained an ACL injury in training ahead of this weekend’s clash with Brentford at the City Ground. And subsequent scans confirmed he is set for a long spell on the sidelines.

“Unfortunately Giulian picked up a serious knee injury in training which will rule him out until the end of the season,” head coach Steve Cooper said in his pre-match press conference.

“It’s really difficult news for him, and a blow for us as well. I know he’s a player who hasn’t featured too much, but he’s a player who has been making good progress and who we really like.

“We’re gutted for him because it’s a serious injury. It’s a blow to the group as well.

“He did it a couple of days ago in training. When it happened we feared it was something serious, and the scans confirmed it.”

Biancone has made three appearances for the Reds since his summer move from Troyes. He started the Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town and was a substitute in Premier League games against Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion.

The full-back joins Harry Toffolo (hamstring), Moussa Niakhate (hamstring), Omar Richards (hairline fracture of the leg) in being out of action. Midfielder Jack Colback, meanwhile, has recently been struggling with a back problem.

Forest have two more league games to play before the World Cup break, with a home match against Crystal Palace to come after facing the Bees. They have a Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur in between.
