Nottingham Forest rivals 'exploring options' as Steve Cooper stance outlined

Nottingham Forest’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace will not be looking to appoint Steve Cooper as their new manager, it has been reported.

The Eagles are on the lookout for a new manager ahead of the new season, with the club yet to make a decision over the future of interim boss Roy Hodgson. The former England manager led the club to Premier League safety after being appointed towards the end of the season.

Reports back in March when Hodgson was initially appointed on an interim basis suggested that Cooper could be an option for the club in the summer. The Welshman has impressed with the job he has done at the City Ground, leading Forest from the bottom of the Championship to Premier League survival.

In their latest report on the manager search at Selhurst Park, the Evening Standard say that Palace Chairman Steve Parish is exploring all of his options before making a decision. The report does add that Cooper will now not be one of those options explored.

Palace are said to be looking for a manager from the UK with Premier League experience, with the eagles speaking to former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers before he returned to Celtic. However, Austrian Adi Hutter has been named as another potential option for the Eagles.

Cooper will be preparing for the new season as Forest look to another campaign in the Premier League. The manager is expected to again be backed in the summer transfer window, although it’s not expected to be as busy as this time last year as the club prepared for a return to the Premier League.

Forest kick off their Premier League season on Saturday, 12 August when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium (kick off 12:30pm). Before then they prepare for the new season with Friendlies against Notts County (H) (15 July), PSV (A) (30 July), Rennes (H) (2 August) and Eintracht Frankfurt (A) (5 August).
