Nottingham Forest relegation odds compared with Leeds United, Fulham, Bournemouth and Everton

Nottingham Forest's play-off win last Sunday has barely sunk in yet, but now the hard work really begins as Steve Cooper's men prepare for the Premier League.

After 23 years away from the top flight you can be guaranteed that everyone at the club - from players and coaches to the owner and tea lady - will do everything in their power to give the Reds the best possible chance of staying up.

With the Premier League's so-called 'middle class' of teams growing bigger every season, it becomes more difficult for promoted teams to stay up. The massive gulf in finances between those at the top and in the Championship is often too big a gap to bridge.

Over the past 10 seasons promoted teams have gone straight back down 46.6 percent of the time. That is perhaps a better rate of survival that one might expect, but a look at the last four seasons has seen that rate rise to 58.3 percent.

It is no surprise, then, to see at least one major bookmaker predicting Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth to make an instant return to the second tier. However, that would make it the first time since 1998 that all three promoted sides have then been relegated.

Forest have been handed very short odds of 8/11 to get relegated. They are also evens to beat the drop and 3/1 to finish bottom.

They are second favourites for relegation, just ahead of Bournemouth at 8/13 and behind Fulham, who are 6/5. The pair's odds for staying up are flipped, with the Cherries at 6/5 and Fulham 8/13.

As for other contenders for relegation, Leeds United and Brentford are the next most likely teams to go down, according to the bookies, with both sides put at 5/2. Leeds avoided the drop on the final day this past season, while the Bees finished in 13th.

Southampton (3/1), Everton (9/2) and Wolves (5/1) are also expected to be in the conversation for the Premier League trap door.

If you are feeling optimistic about Forest's chances next season, you can get them at 1000/1 to win the title outright. They are also 100/1 to qualify for the Champions League and 10/1 for a top half finish.

Premier League relegation odds for 2022/23:
