Nottingham Forest release statement confirming imminent transfer

Nottingham Forest have announced that their first signing of the January transfer window will be Gustavo Scarpa.

Scarpa, 28, will join the Reds on January 1 on a free transfer from recently-crowned Brazilian champions Palmeiras. A four-year contract is also confirmed, which sees the one-cap Brazil international set to stay at the City Ground until the summer of 2026.

The player arrived in Nottingham earlier this week and caught the eye by riding around the city centre on a skateboard this weekend. A transfer that has been a worst-kept secret around the club is now finally official just shy of a month before the winter window opens in the new year.

With Palmeiras, Scarpa scored 13 goals and assisted a further 15 for teammates during their dominant season in the Brazilian top flight. The São Paulo-based side finished eight points clear at the top of the table, with their standout player Scarpa being named player of the season.

It has been a trophy-laden spell for Palmeiras and Scarpa over the last four seasons, having also lifted the league title in 2018 as well as winning the Copa Libertadores, the South American Champions League, back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. After nine successful seasons in his homeland, first with Fluminense and then Palmeiras, Scarpa has now made a move away from South America to play for Forest.
