Nottingham Forest miss out on transfer as Premier League rivals eye target

Good morning, Reds fans! Here is a look at the latest Nottingham Forest headlines ahead of the first game of the season against Newcastle United at the weekend.

Evangelos Marinakis hires Huddersfield Town boss who lost to Nottingham Forest in play-off final

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has appointed former Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan as manager of Olympiacos.

Corberan managed Huddersfield last season, guiding them to the play-off final before they were beaten by Forest at Wembley Stadium. He resigned his position four weeks ago and is now the manager of Olympiacos who, like Forest, are owned by Evangelos Marinakis.

He is joined in Greece by his assistant at Huddersfield, Jorge Alarcon, meaning Marinakis has now hired four key Huddersfield figures from the play-off final across his two clubs. The appointments of Corberan and Alarcon at Olympiacos follow Forest's double signing of left-back Harry Toffolo and central midfielder Lewis O'Brien from the Yorkshire side.

Nottingham Forest transfer blow as midfielder agrees surprise move after Reds links

Nottingham Forest target Aaron Ramsey has a "verbal agreement" in place with French club Nice, according to reports.

The Wales midfielder was linked with a move to Forest last week as Steve Cooper looked to add to the centre of midfield. That was before the arrival of Orel Mangala from Stuttgart, though, so it is unclear whether Forest remained interested beyond that stage.

Ramsey has had his contract terminated by Juventus, meaning he is free to find a new club in order to earn his place. He will be looking to impress ahead of the World Cup in November, with Wales having qualified for the first time since 1958.

'Because of them' - Jamaal Lascelles delivers honest Nottingham Forest verdict ahead of Newcastle clash

Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has admitted he would "not be here" without Nottingham Forest.

Lascelles came through the academy at Forest and made 66 appearances for Forest before leaving for Newcastle in 2014 alongside Karl Darlow. He has now made over 200 appearances for Newcastle over seven years, six of them as captain, and has established himself as a Premier League defender.

He will come up against his boyhood club on the opening day of the Premier League season this Saturday, when Forest travel to Newcastle United. Speaking ahead of the game, Lascelles has credited Forest for getting him to where he is today, though admitted he is "focused on beating" Steve Cooper's Reds.

Nottingham Forest take on Premier League rivals in transfer tussle as reunion eyed

Nottingham Forest are interested in a summer transfer for Wolfsburg forward Omar Marmoush, and could rival fellow Premier League side Brentford for his signature, according to reports in Germany.

The 23-year-old scored three goals and provided five assists during a loan spell with Bundesliga side Stuttgart last season, where he played alongside newest Forest recruit Orel Mangala. He returned to Wolfsburg this summer and has already started, and scored a stoppage time winner in the first round of the DFB-Pokal Cup tie this season.

According to German outlet Kicker, via fussballtransfers , Forest are among the clubs showing an interest in the forward. But they face competition from Brentford and La Liga side Espanyol.
