Nottingham Forest are said to have enquired about promising young German defender Jamil Siebert ahead of the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old Fortuna Dusseldorf centre-back is currently on loan at Viktoria Koln. But he has reportedly been attracting interest from elsewhere, including from the Reds.
German newspaper Bild claim Forest have expressed an interest in signing Siebert in January. They would have to fight off competition from Jose Mourinho’s Roma for his signature, while it is also suggested he could stay with his loan side until the summer.

Transfermarkt relay the article from Bild, which includes quotes from the player’s agent. In a translated interview, Alexis Portselis said: "It's true that both clubs are interested in Jamil. They contacted us and enquired about the contractual situation.
“Jamil enjoys a very high level in England and Italy. Look, there have already been enquiries from Leicester City and AC Milan in the past.”
Forest made 22 signings in the summer as they prepared for life in the Premier League, although three of the new arrivals immediately headed out on loan. The winter window will not be anything like as busy for Steve Cooper’s side, but a few key additions could still be made.
Head coach Cooper will discuss transfer plans with recently-appointed sporting director Filippo Girladi during the World Cup break. Prior to his team’s final game before the hiatus, the Welshman had said: “At the moment, we’re only focused on Saturday. But after that - like at every club - there will be some meetings and some conversations.
“Myself and Filippo have said, ‘let’s concentrate on the games for now, and then when this phase of games has finished, let’s pick up what else needs to be picked up’. I think that’s a good way for now.
“After the game, everyone is going into a break. But it’s not a break where everyone will split up and go away. There will be some time away, but not lots, because then we go into a really important period of preparing for the next phase.
“We won’t have to go through some of the behind-the-scenes stuff of putting everything together when we come back, so hopefully that will be in a stronger place, which allows us then to, hopefully, get to the next level, in terms of our identity, our togetherness, our performance levels and hopefully results. And hopefully it will give us half a chance of improving our league position, because that is what we all want.”
