Nottingham Forest loan star's future assessed as fresh transfer link emerges

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a summer move for former Manchester City youngster Cameron Humphreys.

But the Reds are not the only ones said to be eyeing up the defender. A host of Championship clubs are reportedly showing an interest in the 23-year-old as this season draws to a close.

It is set to be a big summer transfer window for Forest head coach Steve Cooper, regardless of which division the club find themselves in. Be it plotting another promotion push or planning for life in the Premier League, should the Reds go up this year, the Welshman will look to stamp his influence on the squad.

Making an impact

Players making an impact from off the bench are helping to keep standards high at Nottingham Forest thanks to the manager's attention to detail, according to midfielder Jack Colback.

Injuries and suspensions aside, head coach Steve Cooper has generally stuck with a fairly settled starting XI. And he has been vindicated in his decisions, with the Reds in fine form as they push for a play-offs spot.

But Forest’s strength in depth could be a key factor in the Championship run-in as they face a busy month ahead. It has already come to the fore as players who haven’t seen much game time have made big contributions in recent weeks.

Tobias Figueiredo, for instance, has stepped in at centre-back and done well in the absence of Steve Cook. Joe Lolley has looked more like his old self in his first few run-outs of 2022. Ethan Horvath is keeping Brice Samba out of the side, after taking his chance while his teammate was suspended. And Cafu always gives his all when drafted into the midfield.

Future assessed

Keinan Davis has impressed since joining Nottingham Forest on loan from Aston Villa in January. And come the summer, a decision will need to be made on his future.

The striker has reaped the rewards of regular game time for the Reds. Having struggled on that front at Villa Park, he has racked up the minutes in the Garibaldi.

Thirteen of Davis’ 15 Forest appearances have come in the starting XI, while he has led the line superbly in the absence of Lewis Grabban. He has weighed in with four goals so far, too.

Up front is an area head coach Steve Cooper will need to look at come the end of the season. Grabban’s contract is coming to an end, with no word yet on whether a new one will be offered. Lyle Taylor’s future is uncertain, given he is currently out on loan at Birmingham City. And that leaves Sam Surridge as the only senior forward on the books without a question mark against his name.

City Ground buzz

Game of Thrones actor and Nottingham Forest fan Joe Dempsie says there is a clear change in the atmosphere at the City Ground as the Reds battle for promotion.

Forest were last in action in the FA Cup quarter-final tie against Liverpool before the international break. Steve Cooper's side came close to overcoming the Premier League opposition, but in the end fell short with Diogo Jota's strike proving to be the difference between the sides.

Nonetheless, Forest are on course for the play-offs and Dempsie says the backing at the City Ground has been unique since Cooper took charge. The 34-year-old was in attendance for the FA Cup quarter-final tie.

"I've made it to a few [games]," Dempsie told BBC Sounds. "I've been to the Liverpool game last week. The sense of occasion was just something I had not experienced before at Forest.
