Nottingham Forest are close to finalising a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler for a fee worth €9 million (around £7.6m), plus add-ons.
The Swiss international will join Steve Cooper's side as signing number 13 of the summer transfer window following the Reds' promotion to the Premier League. Reports have reported that the 30 year-old will sign a three-year contract at Forest after six years in Serie A.
Eight players made their debuts in the opening day defeat to Newcastle United last week, with summer signings Wayne Hennessey and Giulian Blancone unused substitutes. However, Cooper and Forest face a fight against time to ensure Freuler can feature in the first Premier League game at the City Ground since May 1999.

According to official Premier League rules, clubs must register new players on the last working day of the week. In Freuler's case, Forest have to register their newest recruit by Friday at 12pm to ensure he is available for selection against West Ham on Sunday.
The player is said to be undergoing his medical ahead of completion of his deal on Thursday evening, giving the club overnight and Friday morning to send off the appropriate paperwork to the league. With Ryan Yates' injury, having Freuler available to feature against David Moyes side could be a huge boost for Cooper.
