Nottingham Forest youngster Fin Back says he has one eye on “the longer picture” as he aims to make the most of his spell at Carlisle United.
There was the possibility of a loan move in January for the highly-regarded 20-year-old. But while he remained at the City Ground last season, he is spending this term at Brunton Park.
And he has made a positive impression for Paul Simpson’s side so far. Back has been a regular in the starting XI, making 12 appearances in all competitions.

The Reds have been keeping a check on him, and the defender admits he is setting his sights high for the future. For now, however, he is concentrating on maintaining his good form for the League Two Cumbrians.
“I know they (Forest) come to watch my games and they offer me advice when they think I need it, but it’s just about me performing,” Back told the News and Star. “I have really high ambitions but whilst I’m here it’s all about this football club and getting the most out of it for myself, the team and fans.
“I do have the longer picture in mind but for now it’s just about playing games here, and getting good results on the pitch, and improving personally, both on and off the pitch.”
He added: “It (a loan move) is something I was looking at in January, but it didn’t happen, so coming to this season it was always my aim to get as many appearances under my belt as I could. As soon as I spoke to Simmo I knew I wanted to come here.
“He’s a great manager and everything he said about the club, the people, the fans is exactly what I wanted. I knew I’d fit right in.”
Carlisle boss Simpson’s relationship with Reds head coach Steve Cooper played a part in Back’s move. The pair know each other from their time working with England’s youth sides.
“It was a factor,” Back said. “But it wasn’t the be all and end all.
“I spoke to a few managers, and as soon as I spoke to Simmo I knew I wanted to come here, because of his passion, his drive, how he told me he was going to help me to improve, that I was going to play games, and the group that he was building. He was very positive and passionate about it.
“I could see that. I’m a very passionate player. I like to know how I’m going to improve because that’s what it’s about.”
