Nottingham Forest 'keen' on £20m-rated striker as summer transfer business eyed

Nottingham Forest are said to be keen on Stuttgart striker Silas Katompa Mvumpa as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The summer transfer window officially opens next Wednesday, and it will be a crucial one at the City Ground. The Reds are keen to oversee the right business to help them push on in the Premier League next term.

Bolstering their attacking arsenal is a must, with Steve Cooper’s side having missed front man Taiwo Awoniyi when he was sidelined due to injury. According to The Sun, the club are eyeing up DR Congo forward Silas as a possible option to add to their ranks.

After scoring five goals in 30 Bundesliga game for a side who finished 16th, he is valued at £20 million and is said to be managed by the same agency as Forest midfielder Orel Mangala. The Reds are said to have had the 24-year-old on their radar before, having kept tabs on him when he was at FC Paris before his move to Germany in 2019.

Forward Chris Wood will officially become Forest’s first signing of the summer next week. An obligation to buy clause was triggered when he made his third appearance in the Garibaldi on loan from Newcastle United, meaning his move will turn into a permanent one when the transfer window opens.

Further incomings and outgoings are expected Trentside as the club look to build on the platform provided by securing top-flight survival. Awoniyi ended the campaign with 11 goals in all competitions, having netted in four consecutive fixtures in the run-in, but finding back-up for the Nigerian will be key if the Reds are to make progress.

"I think there will be more normal numbers,” Cooper has said of potential signings, following last year’s extensive shopping spree. “There will be a natural process of assessment at the end of the season of where you think you're at and how you improve.”
