Nottingham Forest have been linked with surprise interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
Head coach Steve Cooper is looking to bolster his central midfield ranks before transfer deadline day on September 1, with a number of players linked to the club so far. The latest name to be connected to Forest is Ndombele, who has fallen down the pecking order in north London.
He made nine Premier League appearances for Tottenham last season before joining Lyon on loan and could now be set for an early exit from Tottenham having joined three years ago for a whopping £55 million. According to a report in Ndombele's native France, Forest have "ticked his name" but face competition from a host of other clubs across Europe.

Aston Villa and Everton have also been credited with an interest, as have a number of teams across Spain, Germany and Italy. Despite the widespread interest, Napoli and Villarreal are said to be the only two clubs to have "taken a step forward" in signing the 25-year-old.
While a move for Ndombele seems unlikely due to the amount of other teams in the running, one central midfielder who does look like he could be moving to the City Ground is Remo Freuler. The Atalanta vice-captain is reportedly close to joining Forest for £7.6m after a "full agreement" was reached between the two clubs.
