Nottingham Forest 'hope to sign' highly-rated Belgian teenager but face transfer battle

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Wolfsburg teenager Aster Vranckx as they look to strengthen in the centre of the pitch.

But the Reds could face competition for the 19-year-old central midfielder. Premier League rivals Everton are also said to be keen on securing his services.

According to French journalist Loic Tanzi, who works for RMC Sport, Vranckx has caught the eye of the two clubs. It looks as though there will be a fight for his signature, as both “hope to be able to sign” the Belgian.

Forest have made six new additions so far this summer, bringing in Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards and Neco Williams. But bolstering the midfield remains a priority.

Head coach Steve Cooper currently has Jack Colback, Ryan Yates, Cafu and Braian Ojeda on the books. However, there is a question mark over where the latter will feature in the Welshman’s plans, while Yates faces a race to be fit for the season opener at Newcastle United after suffering a knee injury.

Vranckx joined Wolfsburg last summer, making the move from Belgian side KV Mechelen for 8m euros (about £6.7m). The likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Manchester City had been linked, but the player explained at the time: “The club seduced me because it was the ideal springboard for other Belgian players.”

Last season, the Belgium Under-21 international made 24 Bundesliga appearances and scored two goals. He also featured four times in the Champions League.
