Nottingham Forest 'hold talks' over transfer for goalscoring midfielder

Nottingham Forest 'have held talks' over the signing of Red Star Belgrade midfielder Kings Kangwa, it is claimed.

The Zambian international scored in his country's African Cup of Nations qualifying win over Ivory Coast last week. Kangwa, who previously had a spell in Russia, joined Red Star in 2022.

Kangwa scored 12 goals in 45 appearances for the Serbian side last season as he helped them to emphatically win the league title with 97 points, 22 more than their nearest challengers. It means that they will be playing in the Champions League next season.

And Forest appear to be interested in acquiring Kangwa's services for next season as they look to bolster their midfield options. Guardian journalist Ed Aarons claims that Steve Cooper's side are in discussions to sign him.

Aarons also claims that the 24-year-old will cost €3m (£2.6m) and that Scottish champions Celtic, Italian club Fiorentina and French sides Lille and Montpellier are also interested.

A fee at that price is relatively cheap for a Premier League side and could constitute good value for a midfielder who may be a useful squad player.

Alternatively, it could be viewed as a huge risk as there will be doubts over whether he would be able to adapt to the English top flight.
