Nottingham Forest hit with another injury concern as Willy Boly and Taiwo Awoniyi update provided

Nottingham Forest’s injury list shows little sign of easing as they prepare for Saturday’s crunch Premier League clash with Leicester City.

Head coach Steve Cooper has been left crossing his fingers that the Reds’ treatment room hasn’t gained another occupant, following his team’s Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Defender Willy Boly, who scored the opening goal, shunned a stretcher and managed to carry on for a short time after hurting his ankle in the second half at the City Ground. But he headed straight down the tunnel once he did come off, and finished the evening with an ice pack on the affected area.

Forest are still without long-term absentees Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards, Giulian Biancone and Cheikhou Kouyate, while Jesse Lingard is midway through a month-long rehabilitation. And, just as against Blackpool in the FA Cup at the weekend, there was no Taiwo Awoniyi in the match squad on Wednesday night, with the striker having been forced off in the league victory at Southampton.

“I don’t know how serious it is, but his ankle is full of ice now,” Cooper said of Boly. “We’ll keep our fingers crossed on that one.

“Taiwo didn’t make it for this one. We’re working away with him for the weekend. We’ve got our fingers crossed on that one.

“I’m not going to ever cry about things that are going against us, but our injury list is really unfortunate at the moment. Leicester is coming up - a good game, a big game. They have a day of extra rest and preparation, which seems to be the norm for us, but there we go. We’ll get on with it.

“We want to flip that and talk about how strong we can be mentally; how we can embrace these challenges and go to work again on Saturday.”
