Forest sent painful message after Arsenal thumping
Nottingham Forest supporters have delivered their verdict on this afternoon's heavy defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Forest went down 5-0 in north London after being unable to build on their encouraging home win over Liverpool last weekend. Gabriel Martinelli scored the opening goal in the fifth minute before Reiss Nelson scored twice in quick succession shortly after the break.
Thomas Partey then scored a fourth with a wonder strike from outside of the Reds' box before Martin Odegaard sealed the Gunners' 10th win of the season to send them back to the top of the Premier League. The Reds registered just two shots on target from five attempts during the match.
Cooper delivers tough verdict after 'step backwards'
Head coach Steve Cooper was left frustrated by a lack of competitive edge as Nottingham Forest suffered a second-half collapse against Arsenal.
The Reds were still in the game at the break, having settled after a shaky start which left them trailing to Gabriel Martinelli’s early header. But they were snail-like out of the traps in the second half and were blown away by three goals in the space of eight minutes.
Martin Odegaard went on to round off the scoring, adding to a Reiss Nelson brace and one from Thomas Partey to make it 5-0 at the final whistle. And it had been all too easy for the Gunners as Forest showed nothing like the fighting spirit which had been on display against Liverpool a week ago.
Liverpool claim made as Forest handed Arsenal verdict
Arsenal supporters have given their thoughts on their side's 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
Forest collapsed at the hands of the Premier League leaders despite an encouraging first half in which Gabriel Martinelli struck the opener within five minutes of kick-off.
Steve Cooper's side went in at the break just 1-0 down, but substitute Reiss Nelson scored two goals in quick succession soon after the restart to put the result beyond doubt.
Arsenal boss reveals key factor in crushing win
Mikel Arteta has delivered his verdict on Arsenal's humbling of Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.
The Premier League leaders were 5-0 winners as Forest struggled to match their quality, despite beating Liverpool at the City Ground last time out.
Arsenal had come from a 2-0 European defeat in mid-week and were looking to respond to Manchester City's victory at Leicester on Saturday that sent them briefly to the top of the Premier League table. And Arteta insisted his side delivered just what was asked of them, as Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson (x2), Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard shared the goals.
How Steve Cook assumed leading role at Forest
Steve Cook has explained how he is trying to bring noise into Nottingham Forest by being a vocal leader on and off the pitch.
The defender joined the Reds in the January transfer window following a 10-year stint at Bournemouth, where many players looked up to him. Now Cook is keen to instil what he has learned throughout his career to Steve Cooper's young team.
Prior to Forest's FA Cup win over Arsenal in January, Cook admits he saw it as the perfect 'opportunity' to make his voice heard amid a quiet dressing room. "The manager asked me to add something to the group, and from the first training session I tried to be a leader," the 31-year-old told the Daily Mail.
Jesse Lingard point made as Reds old boy highlights failings
Former Nottingham Forest striker Glenn Murray has delivered his verdict on Jesse Lingard following the 5-0 defeat at Arsenal.
Four different Arsenal players got on the scoresheet. Gabriel Martinelli scored the opening goal inside five minutes before Reiss Nelson scored two in quick succession after the break to take the game away from the hapless visitors. Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard then added to their pain with further goals.
Summer signing Lingard, who was handed a start by Steve Cooper at the Emirates, again struggled to make an impact. The 29-year-old former Manchester United star is yet to find the back of the net for Reds, despite starting nine of their 13 Premier League games so far this term.
