Nottingham Forest have received a "hopeful" injury update on Cheikhou Kouyate after the midfielder was hurt while on World Cup duty with Senegal.
The 32-year-old started for his country against Netherlands on Monday and played 72 minutes before going down with an ankle injury following a collision with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Following their 2-0 loss to Louis van Gaal's side, Senegal boss Aliou Cisse said the Reds summer signing had twisted his ankle, whilst Sport News Africa later suggested he had suffered a torn thigh muscle and was expected to miss subsequent group matches against Qatar and Ecuador.
Wayne Hennessey 'devastated' by World Cup red card and Wales defeat
Wayne Hennessey was left "devastated" by his red card for Wales in their World Cup defeat to Iran, according to international team-mate Danny Ward.
The 35-year-old Nottingham Forest goalkeeper saw an initial yellow card upgraded to a red by referee Mario Escobar following a VAR review of a challenge on Iran striker Mehdi Taremi.
Hennessey rushed out of his penalty area after a long ball was played behind the Welsh defence, but caught Taremi with a high foot while attempting to clear the ball.
Ward, the Leicester City keeper who was on the bench for Wales in Qatar, was brought on as a replacement, but Iran made their one-man advantage count as they went on to claim a 2-0 victory with a brace of added time goals. Wales must now beat England on Tuesday to have any hope of progressing to the knock-out stages of the competition.
Brennan Johnson makes England promise as Wales fight for World Cup future
Brennan Johnson insists Wales can shock England and keep their World Cup dream alive.
Wales’ hopes of making the knockout stages were left hanging by a thread after losing 2-0 to Iran. England’s goalless draw with the United States on Friday night means that Wales still have a path to the round of 16, but qualification is out of their own hands unless they beat Gareth Southgate’s side by a four-goal margin.
More realistically, Wales must beat England on Tuesday – something they have not achieved since 1984 – while hoping Iran and United States draw their final game. That would see Wales finish behind England and above Iran in second spot on goal difference, the first deciding factor for teams on equal number of points at this World Cup.
Gary Neville slams Wayne Hennessey decision as Nottingham Forest man suffers World Cup red card
Gary Neville has slammed Wayne Hennessey for the rash challenge which saw the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper sent off in Wales' World Cup clash with Iran.
The 35-year-old stopper was handed the number one shirt for the Qatar tournament by Wales boss Rob Page and had started both their group games to date, against the USA and Iran.
Wales were able to claim a draw in their first game thanks to a late Gareth Bale penalty, but suffered a 2-0 defeat to Iran on Friday, largely down to the decision making of Hennessey.
