Nottingham Forest handed injury blow as £35m transfer admission made

Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Transfer admission made amid Forest links

Nottingham Forest transfer target Beto will be "impossible to keep" in the summer transfer window , his club's owner has said.

Forest have been tipped to make a "monstrous offer" for the 25-year-old, who could leave Udinese in the coming weeks for a fee as high as £35million. That's the reported value of his release clause, which could spark something of a bidding war.

A number of top Italian clubs are said to be interested in signing the Portuguese forward, and Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo has made a difficult admission about what the future might hold for his star man.

“He has great potential and is still young,” Pozzo told Gazzetta dello Sport . “But if an offer arrives from a big name, it will be impossible to keep him.”

Navas injury blow

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been ruled out of Nottingham Forest’s final match of the season.

The Reds have had rotten injury luck for much of the campaign, and it seems that theme has continued right until the end. Defender Felipe and midfielder Danilo are also doubts for Sunday’s clash at Crystal Palace, with both having been forced off during last weekend’s victory over Arsenal.

Thanks to the three points Forest claimed against the Gunners, Forest secured safety with a game to spare. Navas received treatment in the dying minutes of the 1-0 win and was replaced by Wayne Hennessey.

The latter will start at Selhurst Park as Steve Cooper ’s side look to sign off on a positive note. And with Navas’ loan from PSG expiring this summer, he might have played his final match for the club.

Nottingham Forest plan revealed

Nottingham Forest face a “really important” June once they have played their final match of the Premier League season.

Head coach Steve Cooper is determined to end the campaign on a high note against Crystal Palace on Sunday, having secured safety with a game to spare thanks to last weekend’s victory over Arsenal. But once the final whistle has blown, his full focus will quickly switch to how the club can build on the platform they have given themselves.

He says conversations about what is next for players whose futures are in doubt have yet to take place. And while the summer transfer business will be key, Cooper stresses it is important to improve both on and off the pitch.

Hodgson makes Palace revelation

Roy Hodgson insisted he expects to be taking charge of Crystal Palace for the final time in Sunday’s Premier League season-ender at home to Nottingham Forest , but did not rule out staying on.

Hodgson took the reins at his boyhood club for the second time on a short-term contract after the departure of Patrick Vieira, and has taken 17 points from nine games to steer Palace well clear of relegation trouble.

Such has been the turnaround in form that Hodgson has been seen as a candidate to take the job on a longer-term basis, but the 75-year-old said that was not on his mind.
