Nottingham Forest handed encouraging injury boost as positive update emerges

Nottingham Forest appear to have been handed an encouraging injury boost during the international break.

Summer signing Omar Richards has yet to make his debut in the Garibaldi, having been sidelined since pre-season with a hairline fracture of the leg. But it seems the 24-year-old has taken a significant step in his recovery.

The club posted a couple of pictures of the defender in his training gear on the grass, complete with broad smile, on social media. And although still early days, that will be seen as a positive sign for Steve Cooper’s side as they aim to bounce back from a tough start to their Premier League campaign.

Prior to the Carabao Cup clash at Grimsby Town last month, the Reds head coach had said of Richards: “Omar is on course. He’s probably still a month away, but he’s making good progress and we’re happy with how he’s doing.”

Earlier in the summer, Cooper had said: “I guess the short-term feeling of it is one of a little bit of disappointment, because we got him here and he was so excited. He trained really well, and obviously it’s a bit of a set-back. I said to him, ‘nothing changes, in terms of the plan for you, it’s just a little bit delayed’.”

Richards made the move to the City Ground from Bayern Munich. His absence saw Forest also bring in Renan Lodi during the transfer window, having already added Harry Toffolo, to compete for the left wing-back spot.

On the injury front, the Reds have also been without Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala of late, both due to hamstring problems. Niakhate has linked up with the Senegal national squad, however, while Mangala had returned to training prior to last week’s clash with Fulham, only to suffer a slight setback. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Dennis and Morgan Gibbs-White have both withdrawn from international duty this week.
