Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Wednesday, 31 May, 2023.
Premier League cash boost
Nottingham Forest will pocket a cash boost of almost £115 million as a result of the 2022/23 Premier League season, according to a new report.
The financial benefits of competing in the top-flight, as well as retaining that status, have been set out in findings by the Daily Mail which take into account Premier League central funds and prize cash. And the rewards for the Reds are quite significant as they look to establish themselves among the elite.
The money comes from equal shares of domestic and overseas TV cash split among the 20 clubs, differing amounts of domestic and overseas cash based on merit (i.e. finishing position), ‘facility’ fee which increases the more a team has appeared in a televised live game in the UK and a share of the league’s commercial income.

Lodi’s Forest connection
Head coach Steve Cooper has expressed his admiration for Renan Lodi, but has remained coy on the Nottingham Forest loanee’s future.
After taking a little while to get to grips with the Premier League , Lodi developed into a key player and consistent performer for the Reds. He made 32 appearances and scored one goal across all competitions as survival was secured.
The on-loan Atletico Madrid defender recently opened up about the “sacrifices” he had made and the challenges he had faced along the way. They included spending time away from his newborn son as he quickly returned to the City Ground from Brazil following his birth, in order to play his part in the run-in.
The key to survival
Head coach Steve Cooper believes developing a sense of unity was key to Nottingham Forest navigating the “ruthlessness” of the Premier League .
The Reds secured survival with a game to spare on their return to the top-flight after a 23-year absence. It made for a party atmosphere among the travelling contingent for Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace, with players and staff taking a moment to celebrate in front of the away end after their final-day 1-1 draw .
The step up in divisions came with many challenges, not the least of which was the significant dressing room overhaul following promotion. But Cooper - while also managing at this level for the first time - was able to create a strong team spirit, as well as deepening the bond forged with supporters.
Former striker’s exit confirmed
Championship side Coventry City have confirmed that Nottingham Forest academy graduate Tyler Walker will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of his contract next month.
The striker, the son of former defender Des Walker, came up through the youth ranks at the City Ground before breaking into the first team. He played a total of 45 times for the Reds, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.
Walker did however spend a lot of time on loan away from the club. He joined Burton Albion, Stevenage, Port Vale, Bolton Wanderers, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City on temporary deals between the years of 2016 and 2020.
